Armadillo  £7.49 | In Stock

Product code: 172031
This cute armadillo rolls into a ball and hides in his shell when scared! He is irresistible and one of the most popular Barefoot toys. He is made from 100% hand woven cotton, stuffed with kapok, and hand dyed with eco-friendly, safe dyes that will not fade or run making him easy to sponge clean. Each one is individually made, with a "shell" that is detachable (held in place with Velcro) and expandable, so that he can hide from the world when it all gets too much.

He has the European Safety Standard CE certificate, although care should be taken that the Velcro does not scratch. Not suitable for teethers for this reason.

Colours will vary, due to the handmade nature of the product and availability of cloth

• Dimensions: 18cm nose to tail, 9cm tall

Made by Barefoot Toys established by Barbara Sansoni. Barefoot works almost exclusively with women, a tradition started by Barbara Sansoni over 30 years ago, who work in small rural workshops. Weaving centres across the island provide valuable employment to rural women, who have elevated their economic status by mastering weaving techniques. The women who weave participate in every stage of the making of the cloth, using eco-friendly traditional methods. The weavers are involved in a creative cognitive process.

Each product is made from start to finish by one person. The craft skills at Barefoot are timeless. Nothing is mass-produced. No child labour is used. All employees are given a decent wage and benefits. There are no factories and no production lines. Each worker is responsible for the quality of the final product. Barefoot teach the skills and strive for quality from the weavers and sewers. Each piece of work is a simple, yet timelessly beautiful and stylish article.
